Adult Choir

The Adult Choir at Christ Church plays an important role in leading the congregation in worship. We would like to extend an open invitation to join us.

We are a diverse group of volunteer singers, ranging in age from high school students upwards.

You can join at any age.* We support the congregation in the singing of hymns and present choral anthems. Anthems are chosen from a variety of musical styles to coordinate with scripture or sermon of the week. Some songs are old chestnuts we all know and love to hear again, some are from the musical masters and some are contemporary pieces. There is something for everyone. We love to sing! We work as a team, as friends, as a family. Music prepares us for worship, adding meaning to the spoken word. Music heals, inspires and uplifts us spiritually, helping us feel closer to God and to each other. We look forward to you being part of the process of making beautiful music. Please join us. (*High school students may receive community service hours toward graduation.)

Our weekly routine consists of rehearsing on Thursdays from 7:30 pm– 9:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary beginning in early September. We sing on Sunday mornings at the 10:00 a.m. service.  Important to note: You may join choir at any time during the year. We realize everyone leads hectic lives, so some people prefer to sing seasonally, as their schedule allows.

In addition to regular Sunday services, there are times when we present special music, such as a concert, an Evensong service, or Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter services. This Advent season will be highlighted by a “Lessons and Carols” service with a “High Tea” reception following. Christmas Eve service will be preceded with vocal and instrumental selections. Palm Sunday is an important Sunday, when the blessing of the palms and a processional parade share a transitional moment from joy to the foreshadowing of the crucifixion. This marks the beginning of Lent. Our Lenten Tenebrae (Latin: “Shadow”) service on Good Friday is the most celebrated service in town. Christ Church is the only church in Needham to present this moving service of Christ’s last moments. Easter morning is celebrated in all its glory with two services. The Adult Choir sings at both services. Pentecost is a very important celebratory service at Christ Church. These are just some of the highlights from the church year. At the end of May, the choir takes a well-deserved rest for the summer.

Please join us as we sing our way through an inspiring musical year.
