2022-2023 Confirmation Class at CityReach in Boston

We invite you to explore our confirmation program youth who wish to learn more about their faith, themselves, and about serving others and who are ready to discern their adult commitment to the Church. At the end of the 8-month program, students are confirmed at a special service by one of our bishops. Students decide for themselves whether they are ready to confirm their faith.

What does it mean to make a commitment to the Christian faith and the Episcopal Church? While each of us is called to give of our gifts in unique ways, our confirmation program helps youth to explore the commitments that were (typically) made for them in baptism – and how they can live into those commitments as individuals and as part of a community. Key areas of , as well focus include developing their own personal prayer practices, learning about Church history, Episcopal structure and polity, exploring and participating in a range of ministries throughout the church.

Proclaiming ones adult faith is a serious decision and it is important for our youth to know that in baptism, they are already full members of God’s family, but that we also want them to consider what it means for them to own their own participation in the life of the Church, wherever that takes them. During discussions, our adult leaders strive to support, challenge and empower students as they explore their faith and its meaning to them as individuals.

What are the expectations of confirmation students?

• Regular attendance at worship services beginning in September
• Participation in CityReach, an overnight service project, where students learn from and serve people who live on the streets of Boston
• Participation in the overnight retreat (at the Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Center) to prepare for their confirmation
• Attendance and active participation in Sunday evening classes held during their Confirmation Program Year (October-April/May)
• Engagement in various ministries throughout the parish.
