Greetings, Siblings in Christ,                

“These are times that try men’s souls,” wrote Thomas Paine in December of 1776, in the midst of the Revolutionary War, when the survival of the new nation seemed in doubt.

“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice,” wrote St. Paul to the Philippians in c. 60 AD, when “The Way” was still a sect of Judaism, under the thumb of mighty Rome.

In our trying times, I rejoice in the Church. In an age of cynicism and anxiety,  I give thanks for our call to be a place where people of all ages experience God’s love, then live lives of purposeful service out of that love. 

All year, we generously share our time and talents to support a wide variety of ministries. Every fall, we ask one another for the treasure we need to be the Church.

The Grateful Hearts Annual Appeal is our opportunity to share our financial resources to help us be the Church this coming year, to love God and our neighbor as Jesus teaches.

Our pledges support a unique, intergenerational organism. Where else do we consistently hear of God’s great love for us? Of the invitation and challenge to extend that love to others? 

On the FAQ sheet, see #4 for a rundown of how your pledge supports our ministries; See #5 for how an Annual Appeal pledge differs from a Campaign commitment. 

Please prayerfully consider your pledge for 2025 using the materials in this packet. Consider stretching beyond what you pledged last year. Print and fill out a Pledge Card and bring it to worship at 10am (no 8:15 service) on Sunday, November 24 to be blessed. Bishop Gallagher will be joining us as well. (You can also mail in the card or pledge online.) Join us for a festive brunch on that day, where we can enjoy one another’s company.

Emily Shedlock’s artwork invites you to view the world through her set of “rose-colored glasses”, combining delicate colors with botanical motifs to emphasize a dreamy quality. Her formulaic approach to overlaying linework creates an illusion that flowers and plants are crawling off the surface, reaching towards a better world. Emily Shedlock (she/her) (b.1993, Providence, RI, USA) is a figurative artist based in Boston, MA. Using acrylic paint, she creates portraits that explore shadow work, a type of psychotherapy meant to expose and confront the parts of ourselves that we repress in an effort to develop true self-acceptance.

Meet the artist, Emily, at the Art Reception on Sunday, November 17 at 11:30am-12:30pm. All are welcome!

Christ Episcopal Church in Needham seeks energetic and poised part-time Office Manager. The Office Manager is a team player who anchors administrative operations and communications.  As the point of first contact for our members and the wider community, this person nurtures a welcoming and orderly culture in a past faced environment. The Office Manager works creatively and collaboratively as part of a professional team of five, including a Rector, Facilities Manager, Music Director, Children’s Programming Coordinator, and Bookkeeper, and supports & coordinates staff & volunteers to advance our mission. Our Office Manager is a service-oriented problem solver who integrates daily operational workflow with responsive support for staff and community members. This highly organized person possesses excellent communication and people skills. The Office Manager anticipates calendar and organizational needs and helps us to plan accordingly. Interest in mission-driven organizations is a plus.

Technical skills: MS Office suite, Google suite, and a variety of communications, web hosting and social media platforms.

This is a part time position on-site 5 days/week September through mid-June, averaging 25 hours/week; 4 days/week June through August (Fridays off) averaging 20 hours/week.

Starting wage range is $22-27/hour, depending on experience. Benefits include: 5 sick days, 2.5 weeks PTO, 12 paid holidays, and 3 unpaid personal days. After one year of employment, the employer contributes 5% into a 403B and matches up to 4%. We are a family-friendly work environment.
