Advent begins this SUNDAY, December 3rd and we’re excited to celebrate this season of preparation together. Join us at 5PM THIS Sunday, December 3 for a short Advent Tree Lighting service at the front of the church, followed by Advent wreath making, a story about St. Nicholas, singing with our organist and choir director Mary Jodice in the Chapel, refreshments, and an ornament craft project. We’ll also launch a special community StoryWalk featuring ‘Twas the Evening of Christmas by Glenys Nellist, located around the building. All are welcome – invite your friends!

Grateful Hearts Reaching Out Annual Appeal for 2024

Greetings, Siblings in Christ,
A few weeks ago, I attended a clergy gathering where the presenter challenged us “to be the Church.”
He reminded us that no other institution has the express purpose of being a place where people of all ages experience the love of God, and then live lives of purposeful service out of that love.
All year, we generously share our time and talents needed for a wide variety of ministries.
During the fall, we ask one another for the treasure that we also need to be the Church.
The Grateful Hearts Annual Appeal is our opportunity to share our financial resources to help us be the Church, to love God and our neighbor as Jesus teaches.
Our pledges support a unique, intergenerational organism. Where else but in the Church can we hear consistently of God’s love for us? Of the invitation to extend that love to others? Where else can we form community with others who seek to put God at the center of their lives?
Your pledge for 2024 funds the pieces that make all this possible. See #4 on the FAQ sheet for a rundown of how your pledge supports our ministries.
Please prayerfully consider your pledge using the materials in this email. Consider stretching beyond what you gave last year. Fill out the Pledge Card that you received in the mail or that’s at bottom of the FAQ sheet in embedded in this email, and bring it to worship at 10am on Sunday, November 19 to be blessed. (You can also send the card in the mail or give online – you do not need a Realm account to pledge online) Join us for a festive brunch after the 10am service on that day (no 8:15 service), where parishioners and guests of all ages can enjoy one another’s company.

Grateful for You! The CCN Vestry invites you to brunch this Sunday, Nov 19 after the 10 service

This Sunday, November 19, come to have your 2024 pledge cards blessed in worship that morning (one service at 10am.) We’ll cap the day with a festive Grateful Hearts brunch, put on by our Vestry, where parishioners and guests of all ages can enjoy one another’s company. We thank one another and God for the resources that support our mission to Love God and our Neighbor as Jesus teaches.

Fauré’s Requiem this Sunday, November 12 at 5pm

To mark Veteran’s Day weekend, The Christ Church Choir and other singing friends are offering a performance of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem on Sunday, November 12 at 5pm in the Main Church.

This poignant and moving work emphasizes themes of eternal rest and consolation. Come enjoy this piece, Felix Mendelsohn’s Hear My Prayer, and poems by King David (attributed), Tennyson, and Eckman, selected for reassurance in anxious times. The program is about an hour. A wonderful way to transition to the week ahead. Invite a friend!

Life After Loss Grief Support Group begins this Thursday, November 9

LIFE AFTER LOSS GRIEF GROUP
Thursdays, November 9 to December 28
10am – 11:30am
(no class on Thanksgiving, 11/23)
Join us at Christ Church in Needham for a bereavement group that will follow an open spiritual path to process the loss of loved ones and other personal grief.
Led by Nikki Stournaras, a Chaplain with West River Hospice, we will gather in the Memorial Room at the Church (1132 Highland Avenue) on Thursdays from November 9 through December 28, 10am-11:30. Please note there is no class on Thanksgiving (November 23).
Registration capped at 10.
