Invitation: Mini-course on Julian of Norwich

Our Wednesday Bible study groups invite you to join us this spring for about eight weeks to read the“Showings” of Julian of Norwich, the first woman ever to write a book in English back in the 14thcentury. Experience for yourself this warm,
engaging group as we commune over scripture. This is a wonderful opportunity to practice close reading of a religious work with the support and insight of others.

There are two options for participating. The morning class from 10 am – 12 noon has begun to study Julian. The evening class from 7 – 8:30 pm will begin their study of  Julian on March 28 or April 4, depending on the weather.  Classes move at their own pace, and attendance every week is not necessary. If you’d like more information, please contact Tracy Rubin at tgr090@mail.harvard.edu.

The recommended edition to purchase is “Julian of Norwich: Revelations of Divine Love”, translated (from Middle English) by Elizabeth Spearing, Penguin Books, ISBN-13: 978-0-140-44673-9. The reason for this edition is that it includes both her short and long texts. We’ll be reading the short text, but the long text will be available for deeper reading if you so desire. Any edition of the short text will also be fine.
