Faure’s Requiem to be Performed March 11

Eternal rest and consolation are the focus of Faure’s magnificent Requiem, which will be presented in Needham in observance of Lent on Sunday, March 11 at 3:00 PM.

Performing the Requiem will be the combined choirs of Christ Episcopal Church, Needham, the Congregational Church of Needham, and St. Paul Episcopal Church of Dedham; the Rivers Symphony Orchestra; and organist Charles W. Raines. Guest soloists are Julie Tierney, soprano, and Mark Anderson, bass.

Under the direction of Needham resident David Tierney, the Rivers Symphony Orchestra will also play “Symphony in D” by Juan Chrisostomo de Arriaga. This classical era composer nicknamed “the Spanish Mozart” lived a tragically short life, dying at age 20 in 1826. Also to be heard is Antonio Salieri’s overture to the opera “La Grotta di Trofonio,” which was composed in 1795.

Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted to help defray costs of this production.

The performance will be held at Christ Church, 1132 Highland Avenue, Needham (across from the public library). The church is handicap-accessible. For more infomration, please call the Christ Church office at 781-444-1469.
