Opening Our Hearts to those in Need

During the Advent season, we will share our blessings with others by contributing to the St. Nicholas Boot Drive, the Annual Christmas Giving Tree, and the Cathedral Clothing Closet. We thank our many members and friends of Christ Church for their donations and generous spirit in bringing Christmas to many. Opportunities include:

Annual Giving Tree

Christmas is fast approaching and so we are putting our thoughts on Christmas and the Christ Church Annual Giving Tree. The agencies we serve would like to have our offering of gifts to the recipients by Monday, December 18th. So all gifts will need to be at Christ Church by Sunday, December 17th. Please consider donating one (or more) of the following:

Gifts for Children: Tags are on the Giving Tree for the children of the women living at Shepherd House. Please take a tag, check the number on your tag, and sign up on the “Shepherd House Childrens Gift” sign-up sheet.

– Gift Cards for Women at Transition House: We will also again be making gifts to Transition House, a battered women’s shelter in Cambridge. We will be collecting $25 gift cards to Target. We had 70 cards last year and will likely need about the same number of cards this year.

Women’s Winter Care Packages: We will be doing the Women’s Winter Care Packages again. These are bags for the women living at Shepherd House, a program for women in recovery run by Victory Programs. The items we include in each bag
are: hat, scarf, gloves or mittens, toothpaste and toothbrush, lip gloss, body/hand lotion and shampoo. You may add anything else to the bag (lipstick, night gown, jewelry, etc.) that you wish, including a note of encouragement to the woman who receives the bag. All are greatly appreciated! You may also fill up a bag of your own with all the items listed.

St Nicholas Boot Drive – for NEW Boots!

Please join the Chiappinelli family in helping Boston’s homeless children by contributing new boots to the St. Nicholas Boot Drive. Circle of Hope volunteers will give these boots to homeless children in the weeks to come to provide warmth throughout the winter months. We are deeply grateful to the Chiappinelli family for organizing the boot drive for the firth year in a row and we thank all who donate. DROP OFF boots in the labeled bins in the Upper Parish Hall at Christ Church by Sunday, December 17.

Cathedral Clothing Closet

In December, we hope to provide a set of thermal underwear, a warm hat and a pair of warm gloves to every guest of MANNA’s Monday Lunch who spends most of their day and night outside over the winter. Myra Anderson will be collecting cash donations on December 3rd and December 10th to purchase long underwear, gloves and hats at reduced prices to ensure that everyone is helped. Your donation of $15 will buy a set of all three! Checks can be made out to Christ Church, with “MANNA Clothing” in the memo line. As always, in our box in Upper Parish Hall, we will continue to collect warm clothing and outerwear, travel-size toiletries, backpacks and new socks to keep the Clothing Closet well-stocked all winter. If you would like
to help distribute clothing, join us on our next trip to Boston on December 11th.
