Support Summer Campers in Mattapan

As we have done for the past several years, Christ Church will be one of the support congregations for B-SAFE for three days this summer; July 29, 30 & 31. If you are not familiar yet with B-SAFE, it is a summer camp program started by Bishop Tom Shaw. ‘The B-SAFE Program (Bishop’s Summer Academic & Fun Enrichment Program) provides safe, enriching activities for hundreds of Boston youth and teens. The program strives to build a loving community; to broaden the horizons of our young people through academics, the arts, athletics, technology training and educational field trips; and to provide meaningful jobs for teens. The BSAFE program is designed to respond to the needs and challenges of young people in neighborhoods in and around Boston.

Our integrated youth programs have the over-arching philosophy to help children “Feel Safe, Feel Big, and Feel Connected.”’ Our job is to provide a full, healthy lunch and afternoon snack for about 100 children, teens and their adult leaders per day.

There are several ways you can help.

– Sponsor a Camper, $15: In addition to sponsoring campers, we sponsor two youth jobs ($1200 each).

– Donate Food: We will be collecting donations of juice boxes, pudding, chips, etc. which can be labeled “B-SAFE” and left in the church office.

– Help Prepare a Lunch here in Needham: You can help prepare the meal for the day with the person responsible for that particular day.

– Attend: We need help each day transporting the food and drink to Church of the Holy Spirit in Mattapan, one of the BSAFE sites. We then set up the food, serve it, and clean up. This is about three hours round-trip.
