Summer at Christ Church

Summer offers many unique opportunities for people of all ages to be nourished in faith and community. During the summer months, we worship every Sunday in the chapel at 9:00 a.m.  We will have a wonderful organist during these services. Join us for fellowship and lemonade or iced tea on the patio following worship.

In addition to Sunday morning worship, we will gather twice for a Sunday evening “Patio Eucharist and Potluck.” These services will begin at 5:00pm on our back patio. It is a joy to worship outside and to share a meal together.

If you like to experience God in nature, join us Sunday, June 22nd at 4:30 p.m. for a kayaking adventure on the Charles River. Contact the Church Office to sign up.

All kids aged 3 through 5th grade are invited to participate in our Kids’ Camp focusing on issues related to food and hunger. We will look at these issues from a local, national, and international perspective. Come once or come to all three. Kids’ Camp will be held during the Sunday 9:00 a.m. service on June 22nd, July 13th, and August 17th.

From June 30th to September 1st the Church Office will be open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There is always a clergy person on call. Simply call the office phone number for this information.

Kids’ Camp: Helping Hungry People

Did you know that although there is enough food to feed everyone in the world, there are many in our country and throughout the world that go hungry? Our Kids’ Camp will provide children in kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to learn about issues related to food insecurity and hunger and to think about the Christian response. Our children will have a fun time even as they explore these important issues.

Kids’ Camp will meet three times this summer during the 9:00 a.m. summer worship service.

June 22: We will focus on local food issues. Are there people in our town who don’t have enough healthy food to eat? What’s a food pantry, and what’s a community garden?

July 13: We will focus on national food issues. Where in the US do people suffer the most from hunger? What is being done to help?

August 17: We will focus on worldwide food issues. We’ll start in the church with a children’s sermon about hunger, then look at creative solutions in the poorest countries to help solve the hunger problem, including our church’s involvement with a goat project in Haiti.

Note to parents: Bring your kids and encourage them to bring friends. Dress is very casual. Lessons will be adapted from “Helping Hungry People” Children’s Sunday School Curriculum, from the organization Bread for the World: www.bread.org

Hosting lunches at B-Safe Summer Camp

Are you interested in helping us host lunches for a week of B-SAFE Summer Camp? We will be providing lunches and snacks for 100 campers and staff during the week of July 7 – 11 at Church of the Holy Spirit in Mattapan.

We need help, and there are several ways you can participate:

Donating food: We will be collecting donations of juice boxes, pudding, chips, etc. Please label donations “B-SAFE” and leave them in the church office.

Helping make lunch: Join us to help prepare a lunch for one designated day.  Lunch will be cooked and assembled at Christ Church.

Driving and serving: You can help us transport, set up, and serve food to the camp participants. This will take about 3 hours round trip.

If you would like to help, please contact Barbara Baker at 781-727-3744 or epic2_us@yahoo.com.

B-SAFE is a summer camp program that provides enriching activities in a safe environment for hundreds of Boston youth and teens. Read more about B-SAFE.
